A mains disconnection relay switches off the network automatically whenever all energy consumer are turned off. For example: You are lying in bed and you switch off the last energy consumer in the room, the bedside lamp. The mains disconnection relay, which is build-in in your fuse box monitors the network with a mini-DC voltage, to determine: there is no current flow. Now the mains disconnection relay switches off the voltage at the fuse and no device, socket, cable, etc. is emitting hazardous radiation anymore.
