The Gigahertz Solutions ME3840B is a low-frequency analyser for measuring alternating electric and magnetic fields. With a frequency range from 5 Hz to 100 kHz, it supports both general measurements and more detailed analysis of different frequency ranges.

Its integrated switchable filter module allows separate assessment of frequency ranges associated with railway power, mains electricity and higher-frequency harmonics. Electric field strength is displayed directly in V/m and magnetic flux density in nT.

A switchable field-strength-proportional audio signal also helps locate and compare field sources during measurements.

Measuring Ranges and Frequency Filters

The ME3840B measures:

electric field strength: 1–1999 V/m
magnetic flux density, single-axis: 1–1999 nT
frequency range: 5 Hz–100 kHz

Three switchable filters are available for further analysis:

16 Hz band-pass
50 Hz high-pass
2 kHz high-pass

These filters allow different frequency components to be assessed separately and help narrow down potential field sources.

Sensors and Measurement Method

The ME3840B has a sensor for low-frequency AC electric fields and a single-axis sensor for low-frequency AC magnetic fields.

Signal evaluation uses RMS measurement. The manufacturer specifies an accuracy of ±2% ±14 digits at 50/60 Hz.

Audio Analysis

The switchable audio signal changes in proportion to the measured field strength, allowing changes to be followed acoustically while locating field sources.

Power Supply

The meter operates with a 9 V alkaline block battery. Average operating time is approximately 24 to 36 hours depending on the selected operating mode.

A low-battery indicator and automatic power-off function are included.
